There's no oil change going on at Quaker Steak & Lube, despite the name; the place is a garage decor, more commercial garage than the home garage look of Hooters. This chain restaurant make bold claims on their award winning wings. The location is decorated with motorcycles hanging from the ceiling and various othere vehicles (a boat, a car). When you buy a pitcher of beer it comes in a 4 foot tall tube which is something to check out as it's quite a presentation piece.

2009-03-31 21:40:27   This wing/barbecue joint is part of a chain. The atmosphere is fun, robust, and a little loud. The theme is a garage/raceway setting with lots of memorabilia and brick-a-brack on the walls. Several vehicles (bikes, racecars, etc) are hanging from the ceiling. When the weather is nice, the motorcycle gatherings are interesting to see, but the atmosphere can be a little...attitude-y.

Supposedly the chain was "voted best wings" in the USA. I don't know what type of vote this was, because their wings are decent, but (again) not great...I've had better at pizza places. What they have going for them is variety - there are about twenty different wing spices/seasonings ranging from very mild to very, VERY hot. They also offer grilled boneless wings, which are just chicken breast strips that they bake.

When they first opened, the food was good (not great). Recently, however, they seem to be losing their touch. One bad meal can be forgiven, but a trend of disappointing visits speaks volumes.

Definitely avoid the mac-n-cheese: it's the kind from the blue box. If I wanted that, I'd pay 19 cents at Aldi and get four times as much. The deep fried pickles are tasty, and this is coming from someone who dislikes pickles. But I guess anything deep fried is bound to be tasty.

Overall, I'd say try it once for the atmosphere. —LosUbres

2009-04-15 11:38:43   Looks like a very popular joint, despite their self proclaimed amazing wings, I have to agree, with others, I ordered theeir in between med to & hot garlic wings and they were the mildest wings I've ever had and not much garlic flavor or mention. The wings were a big soggy too. Although my wife ordered the salt & vinegar wings (it's a powder, not a sauce) and they were amazing, and I'm not even a fan of salt & vinegar. The most interesting thing they sell is this 4' tall tube of beer that's quite a presentation piece. —TravisO
